Global Logistics manages the logistics for Mobil 1's Grand Prix Experience Simulator (GPES). The GPES is a ground breaking full size F1 car simulator on a hydraulic platform and GLM store, ship, install and maintain it at events around the world.

GLM technicians have recently returned from Russia where the Mobil 1 Grand Prix Experience Simulator was installed at a number of locations.

The GPES is at the cutting edge of racing simulators. It is a full size F1 car which is mounted on a moving platform which means the car can move forwards, backwards and sideways. This computer controlled platform faithfully replicates the movement of an F1 car in action right down to the force of braking and acceleration as well as some of the g force effects and the consequences of going off the track! In addition the 3 flat screen monitors give the driver a wrap around view which further enhances the experience.

Already the GPES has been seen in Europe and the Middle East and will shortly be on display in North America as part of Mobil 1's Formula 1 sponsorship activation. GLM will continue to work on the programme through Mobil 1's sponsorship agency - Marketing Minds.

As official logistics partner to Delta Motorsport, GLM are getting ready to add new technology logistics to their repertoire. Delta is a Silverstone based motor engineering consultancy with an enviable record in race car design and build. They are using those skills to develop their entrant for the world famous Progressive Automotive X-PRIZE, a prize for fuel efficient cars, whose mission is to inspire a new generation of viable, safe, affordable and super fuel efficient vehicles that people want to buy.

The Delta entry, the all electric E4-Coupe, is a 4 seat car which will be the first of its type to achieve a 0-60 time of less than 5 seconds whilst travelling 200 miles on a single charge. From an initial entry list of 73 just 29 teams made it to the short list and Delta are the only remaining European entrant in the mainstream category. The prototype E4 Coupe will be shipped to the USA at the end of May for evaluation and testing by the X-PRIZE technical team. Assuming all goes well a batch of E4´s will be available for consumer testing by the end of 2010.

GLM will be shipping the car by air freight to Detroit which has proved another challenge for the Operations team. Mark Bonner the GLM Operations Director said; "When we first looked at it we thought it might not be possible to ship an electric vehicle by air freight because of the batteries. But we worked with the airlines, IATA and the DFT here in the UK and have been given the OK to air freight the car. We are really pleased to be part of this programme. The E4 is a great car and we really hope it wins the prize."

Simon Dowson, Managing Director of Delta Motorsport added; "Mark and the guys at GLM have been a real asset to us. Their experience has solved a couple of logistics problems we faced that were major stumbling blocks in the past."

GLM ships record freight to ChinaRead more...

This years Sinopec Grand Prix of China has surpassed the record volume of freight shipped by Global Logistics to a single event.

With product required for Mclaren Marketing, Kangaroo TV, Hilton and Santander, GLM staff were involved in planning and executing the logistics for the freight to Shanghai starting in August this year.

The freight consisted of 15 tonnes of air freight and 3 x 40' cargo containers of hospitality equipment, hand held TV's, F1 show cars, simulators and marketing displays and back drops. Both air and sea freight services were called into action with some items, not needed at other races, being despatched by sea in late August.

An added complication to the process was that most of the items GLM handled were used at the Japanese Grand Prix just a week before the China race. As the freight could not be taken from the Fuji circuit until late on the Sunday evening and was required for set up in China 2 days later some careful planning, scheduling and negotiation took place to ensure there was adequate space on the limited flights available from Tokyo to Shanghai Pudong.

All the freight got there on time and the GLM crew now have one more race to go to in Brazil before their next break.

GLM are ready to go for this years F1 season with the first race in Melbourne only days away. Already more than 15 tonnes of marketing equipment is on its way by sea freight and more is expected to go via air freight shortly.
